KASHMIR - THE EMERALD SET IN PEARLS


Introduction:


Set like a jewel in the Indian Sub-continent, The valley of Kashmir, is a land of abundant natural landscapes dotted with green lush forests, snow capped peaks and beautiful green valleys with a tinge of wildlife and blessings of a pleasant climate. Known for a long time as Paradise on earth and Venice of the east, the valley has attracted many travelers and conquerors to its wealthy natural lands and tropical greenery. Surrounded by a ring of mountains and hills, the valley looks like a natural fortress with secluded mountain resorts, sparkling lakes and magnificent flora and fauna. We take you on a tour to visit the famous Mughal gardens, drive through pine forests and explore the valley with luxurious stays in the houseboats and wooded villas.

Details:

Day 1: Arrive in Srinagar:

You will arrive in Srinagar in the early afternoon. Upon your arrival, you will be met by our representative who will escort you to the beautiful city and transfer you to your houseboat. The day will be spent in complete relaxation, where you will experience the difference of staying in these luxurious houseboats.

Day 2: Sightseeing of Srinagar:
Breakfast at the boat.


A day of explorations and experiences, we start from our houseboats and paddle across the lake in small boats to the other side of the lake. From here we will board the cars and drive to the famous Mughal gardens of Kashmir. The day sightseeing includes a visit to the Nishat Garden, known for its well laid flower gardens, fountains, water channels and huge Chinar trees. Built in the 16th century, the garden overlooks the Dal Lake and has a dramatic backdrop of the mountain ranges behind it. We later drive to visit yet another garden known as Shalimar. The garden is smaller then Nishat, but nonetheless is very beautiful with huge stone pavilions set amidst water pools and lush green trees swaying to and fro in the light breeze. After spending the afternoon here, we drive back to our houseboats. Later in the evening we will take a short boating ride in the backwaters of the lake, visiting some boat communities and steeping on the little floating gardens. Late evening and overnight stay at the boat.

Day 3: Srinagar to Sonamarg: (170 km / Full day trip)

We drive today to explore a beautiful secluded mountain resort 87 km north of the valley. Driving through stony river beds and mud villages with a mesmerizing backdrop of the Himalayan range, the route takes us to the green valley of Sonamarg literally known as the golden meadow. We will arrive in the afternoon and after lunch go horse riding to the only famous glacier found here. The valley has a beautiful contrast of naked mountains, green fields and snow white glacier with water trickling beneath it. After a well spent afternoon, we drive back to Srinagar.

Day 4: Srinagar to Gulmarg: (58 km / 2/3 hrs)
Breakfast at the boat.

Morning will spent at leisure at the boat or relaxation on the sun deck. We will leave for another famous mountain resort in the afternoon. The resort is located on a high mountain plate, and is closely associated with some famous winter sports held every year. We will drive through rice fields and small towns and eventually drive uphill surrounded by thick pine forests to arrive at the bowl shaped open meadow of Gulmarg. Known locally by the name of Valley of Flowers the resort is encircled by huge mountains, glistening with their snow capped peaks and lush forests. We will transfer to the hotel and take a stroll in the lush slopes. Overnight at hotel. relaxing at the hotel.

Day 5: In Gulmarg:
Breakfast at the hotel.

We will stay in the mountain resort for another day and continue to explore the majestic area. We will also board the Swiss styled Gondola that takes us to the top of the mountain and provides a rare sight of the valley. Rest of the day at leisure.

Day 6: Gulmarg to Pahalgam: (152 km / 5/6 hrs)
Breakfast at the hotel.

After breakfast at the hotel, we will drive on much of the route that leads to Srinagar. On the outskirts of the Srinagar city, we will drive on the national highway to stay in yet another mountain resort of Kashmir. The valley of Pahalgam locally known as The Shepherds Village is by far the most famous of the three resorts known in Kashmir. With lush tropical forests and beautiful rivers and streams, the valley is tucked deep into the mountains and is known for its beauty and landscape. We arrive in Pahalgam in the late afternoon and transfer to our hotel. The sightseeing of the day includes a visit to the market and some walks along the river.

Day 7: In Pahalgam:
Breakfast at the hotel.

We will continue our sightseeing by going horse riding on the pony trails high on the hills. We will also go on a small fishing expedition where you will be shown the world famous trout fish and the fishing department with a small hatchery. Rest of the day will be at your leisure for individual activities. Overnight at hotel.

Day 8 Pahalgam to Srinagar: (97 km / 3/4 hrs)
Breakfast at the hotel.

After a well spent week in touring the amazing mountain resorts, you will head back to the city for some last time sightseeing. We will drive and retrace our route, visiting en-route a famous 11th century ruined temple and drive past the world famous saffron fields. We will arrive and transfer to the houseboat. In the evening you can go on a boat ride or on a shopping spree in one of the many colorful bazaars.

Day 9: Srinagar Departure:
Breakfast at the boat.

You will be transferred in time to the airport for your flight to any onward destination.
